ShelterBox Dartmoor Challenge Success for Evolution Teams

Eight teams from Evolution took part in the ShelterBox Dartmoor Challenge in September and jointly raised £17,387 for ShelterBox.

The teams did extremely well with seven teams completing the challenge and even though one team had to cut the challenge short due to an ankle injury part way through day two, all eight teams crossed the finish line to well deserved applause and cheers from the assembled crowd. Read More

ShelterBox Dartmoor Challenge Update – June

We were hoping to enter 5 teams from evolution in this year’s ShelterBox Dartmoor Challenge and organised a launch event to recruit enough people to take part.

We were inundated with interested people and have now entered 9 teams into the Challenge.  As each team is required to raise £1,000 in sponsorship to take part, we will be giving at least £9,000 to ShelterBox and we are hoping to raise a lot more for this fantastic disaster relief charity. Are You Up For A Challenge?

Are You Up For A Challenge?

Would you like to have a real sense of achievement, increase your fitness, learn some new outdoor skills, develop your teamwork and raise money for ShelterBox?

We would like to offer you the chance to experience all of the above with us on the 2010 ShelterBox Dartmoor Challenge which takes place on the 11th and 12th September.
The Challenge is a 30 mile trek for teams of four across Dartmoor over 2 days – carrying a Shelterbox.

The Shelterbox is a large plastic box containing a tent, stove, cooking utensils and everything needed to supply shelter for displaced people in disaster areas across the world (it weighs 40kg).

Last year, four of us from Evolution formed a team to join in the Dartmoor Challenge.  We really got a lot out of it and decided to give people who would be interested in the Challenge, but who wouldn’t apply to join it on their own, the chance to get involved.

This year we are entering five teams into the Challenge.  Each team will be facilitated by one of the orginal members plus Fiona, who will be facilitating a Women’s team.

We would like you to be part of the Challenge and we will be running an introductory event at the Engine House in St Agnes on the 3rd March from 6pm to 8pm.

Please contact us if you’d be interested in the Challenge, or would like to come along to find out more.

Who Are ShelterBox?

ShelterBox are a Cornwall Based Charity who instantly respond to earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane, cyclone, tsunami or conflict by delivering boxes of aid.

Each box supplies an extended family of up to 10 people with a tent and lifesaving equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless. The contents are tailored depending on the nature and location of the disaster, with great care taken sourcing every item to ensure it is robust enough to be of lasting value.

Currently, ShelterBox have sent over 7,000 boxes to Haiti. Each box costs £490.00.

How Will It Work?

Each team of four will have a Facilitator.  Their job is to make sure you don’t get lost on the challenge and to help you get the right equipment, develop the right level of fitness and know how to raise the required minimum sponsorship of £1,000 per team.

Throughout the next six months we will organise regular events for the whole group where we will help you understand teamwork and leadership and develop your skills in this area.

We will organise regular walks on Dartmoor, increasing in distance, where the emphasis will be on your team’s navigational skills (which we will help you develop).  One of these walks will include an overnight stop in tents.

We will give you advice on the level of fitness required to complete the Challenge and how to achieve this level in the timescale. We will also give you advice on fundraising.

Each team will be accompanied by a Facilitator on the Challenge itself.

Although the challenge is a race, we are seeing completion of the Challenge as a success and will not be pressuring anyone to compete or walk faster than they feel able to.

So, if you feel that you’re not fit enough, or that you don’t know how to navigate, or have never slept in a tent or carried a rucsack, but would like to challenge yourself and feel a real sense of achievement – then this challenge is for you!

Send us your details, come along to the event on the 3rd March and join us on what will be a testing, challenging event which will be really enjoyable (even while you’re doing it).
