The First NLP in Business Conference
15th October 200
The Lamorna Cove Hotel

NLP ConferenceThe First NLP in Business conference took place at the Lamorna Cove Hotel on the 25th October 2004. The Hotel is a superb venue with the main room floating above the valley side with amazing views out to sea.

NLP ConferenceThe Conference was well attended with delegates from Private, Public and Voluntary Sectors. After coffee and initial introductions, Joseph Pritchard introduced the day, the Presenters and the topic areas.

NLP ConferenceTania Hopkinson presented the first session which was an introduction ‘Frames’ in an NLP context. Tania discussed an number of different types of Frame including the ‘Outcome’ Frame. This topic was explored with well formed outcomes, a technique for successful goal setting which takes SMART objectives to a whole new – effective level.

NLP ConferenceAfter a demonstration, the delegates worked on their own outcomes in pairs. This was followed up with an introduction to the ‘Recap’ Frame, an excellent way to explore the learning from any situation.

NLP ConferenceJoseph Pritchard was the second speaker with an introduction to the ‘Disney Strategy’. This strategy is based on the thinking processes of Walt Disney, who was able to take the role of Dreamer, Realist and Critic as necessary to ensure success.

NLP Conference Joseph demonstrated the Strategy using Spatial marking for the different elements of the strategy. Delegates then had a chance to explore the strategy with their own topics.

NLP ConferenceAndy Britnell followed Joseph with an exploration of the Language of Leadership. Taking as his example the famous ‘I have a Dream’ speech of Martin Luther-King.

NLP Conference Delegates had the opportunity to examine a transcript of the speech to look for motivating language patterns. Andy discussed different types of language patterns and the results of using these. The patterns he introduced included sensory specific language, repetition, and metaphor.

NLP ConferenceAfter an excellent lunch, Elizabeth Pritchard used Spatial marking again to introduce an excellent method for exploring difficult relationships. This focused on the extraordinary benefits of physically moving to see the situation from the other person’s point of view, you as an observer and from the point of view of an uninvolved observer, as well as from your own position.

NLP ConferenceFollowing a demonstration with a willing delegate, everyone else had the opportunity to practice the technique with their own issues.

NLP ConferenceMartin Crump followed Elizabeth with the ‘Six Step Sales Process’ Martin introduced the NLP Communication Model and used it to explain how it is that most people find it easier to influence some people than others.

NLP ConferenceHe went on to explain the approach to selling (whether this is a product, service or concept) which will improve the ability to influence everybody.

NLP ConferenceFollowing Martin’s session, there was a panel question and answer session which dealt with delegates’ questions such as “Why is there so much jargon in NLP?” and “Does Hypnotherapy have anything to do with NLP?”

NLP ConferenceFeedback from delegates at the end of the day indicated that the first NLP in Business Conference had been a great success and everyone (including the Presenters) is looking forward to the next one.
